New Water and Sewer Rates June 1

The Village of Elburn’s water and sewer rates will increase effective with the June 1, 2017, bills.

The Village of Elburn’s water and sewer rates will increase effective with the June 1, 2017, bills.  By ordinance, water rates will increase 2.1% based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for the previous calendar year.  The new water rate will be $4.12 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons) of water used each month.  The rate for water service outside village limits will increase to $5.36 per 100 cubic feet.  In addition to the usage charge, a base water charge of $7.50 is assessed to each account each month and is not based on usage.

Sewer rates will increase 6.8% effective with the June 1 billing.  This is a much smaller increase than the 20.7% increase originally estimated when the $10 million modernization project for the waste water treatment plant was begun in 2015.  The charge for sewer usage is based on the amount of water used each month and will increase to $6.96 per 100 cubic feet of water used each month.  The rate for sewer service outside village limits will increase to $8.66 per 100 cubic feet.  In addition to the usage charge, a base sewer charge of $7.50 is assessed to each account each month and is not based on usage.
